Best ear/headphones under $50?
I just bought a Cowon S9 (best sounding MP3 player ever created) and I am looking to get a new pair of earphone or headphone but with a budget of $50 or less. I used to have the Shure SE-420 but had to sell it to pay off some debt. I am looking for something with great sound and noise isolation, at the same time really durable, as my other headphones have ALWAYS died on me. I am currently leaning towards the Sennheiser CX300s, but reviews have mentioned that it isn’t durable. What are some other good phones out there?
Seems like you’re used to higher-end audio, what with the SE420s and the S9. The CX300s will seem severely lacking in detail to you and the bass will be too muddy.

Soundmagic PL21 ($21 dealperfect.com) – Powerful bass, very full-sounding, not as accurate and balanced as PL30 but a more “popular” sound signature
Soundmagic PL30 ($23 mp4nation.net) – Fun, forward mids, lots of accessories, comfy
Lenntek Sonix ($30 smalldog.com) – Deep bass, focus on mids and lows, cheap, very well-built
Head-Direct RE2 ($39 head-direct.com) – Very detailed headphones for the price if somewhat cold and bright, forward upper mids/highs, subdued but accurate bass. Need warm amp to shine.
MeElec AI-M6 ($40 overstock.com) – Same as AI-M9 in a different (more comfortable) form factor. I very much prefer these to the M9.
Maximo iM-590 ($50 amazon.com) – Punchy, comfortable, very well-balanced. Great build quality and accessories. 2yr warranty with excellent customer service.
Soundmagic PL50 ($55 dealperfect.com) – Smooth, full, balanced, relatively detailed, somewhat on the warm side. Has good extension on both ends.
Nuforce NE-7M ($55 amazon.com) – Strong bass, fun, slightly warm, popular bang-for-the-buck recommendation, great customer service
